Writing, at least lately, has become a habit of typing my thoughts. While this is not in reality a “bad” thing, for it provides entertainment and moments of thought (hopefully) for my readers… still sometimes I catch myself pondering “the thought.” Is it all a bunch of fluff?
A reader once accused me of changing my style and another said I had turned into an “audience writer.” Ouch. But in truth perhaps that is not far from what has happened since to be honest this blog is more than my hobby. If you are curious how I am on it so much… I replaced a lot of my “leisure time” with this blog. Why? If you have to ask that please just walk out now and choose the door on the right. I promise it isn’t a trapdoor…
I have replaced a lot of things with this blog because I also still work 40 hours a week at a real job I have to clock into and I have a family that needs me. I am sure this is the same story many other “writers” can share. How nice would it be to not have to clock in to another person’s company? I don’t have the answer. If you are looking for “get rich schemes” or “eBooks on making money from home” you came to the WRONG website. I don’t have anything for you.
Currently I make about $45 a month off HarsH ReaLiTy. The amusing part is, I am making EQUAL on my new website. But I pushed it to 5,000 subscribers in a little less than 3 months. The lack of offensive title and tagline actually helps… imagine that. I kept my same screen name, which actually hasn’t helped and has in reality hurt my traffic. I just felt like sharing that info because… why not?
You can make a lot of money off writing books and eBooks. My blogging and self-promotion tips aren’t bullshit, I hope that is obvious by now. The problem for me is I am currently not selling a product. I no longer sell the two short eBooks I did and I am basically… well that is the issue. I am writing my thoughts. When that stops it will mean I found something worthwhile to do. I hope that occurs soon.

and like you say…why the hell not? 🙂
Indeed, why not. 🙂

Sometimes writing down your thoughts can lead to ideas for new story. 🙂
Many times it can. 🙂
As a writer I can resonate with you because we want to write our thoughts, hobbies, passions, and even lives out to a certain degree. That’s called our freedom of speech, but can you make money doing it? I’ll be honest and say like yourself, I’m working towards that, and if I find the way to do it, I’ll let you know.
Affiliate marketing changed a lot of things for us all, and if we want to push those products we’ve got to find ways to come up with relevant content to keep pushing those products that we’ve probably never seen or used before in real life, and it’s just becoming more and more difficult, because what it does, is it takes you away from writing about whatever your true passion is.
For me, I’ve chosen the wedding industry, for me, I’ve chosen to take one of my passions, and something I find enjoyment in, and am using it as the way to try and jump in. On a personal level, I’ll do the same thing for entertaining, cooking, and baking products, as well as books, ebooks, and gift ideas, and for my professional site where I talk about careers, and marketing, I’ll talk about books, ebooks, and web hosting so that I can promote those products.
I’ve put a lot of time into thinking about what products, and services that I want to market, and the reason why is because I want to not just be successful at what I am doing, but I want to stay true to my values, myself, and even my followers as I drive down that road to writing full time, because it brings me happiness, it allows me to stay home which is something I have to do because I’m a full time care giver with no adult day care programs available, and because in the future it will allow me to be a better wife for my future husband (whoever he may be).
I wish you the best, but let me say this, don’t give up, and don’t change your writing style to appease. You are writing for yourself, before you are writing for others, and if that wasn’t the case you wouldn’t have created your first blog to begin with, because that passion didn’t come from someone else, it came from you, yourself.
I appreciate the encouragement. I still write for myself and always will, and this in turn will always skew my numbers. But that is the price we pay for passion. I appreciated the well thought out response and thanks for giving this a read! -OM
I believe that blogging is a tool many of us use to write out our thoughts and perhaps organize them or make sense of them for lack of a better descriptive phrase.
Many do yes, but equally many also want to see some success or profit from their words and don’t want to hand them out for free. 🙂
Your thoughts are worthwhile reading because, for someone like me who can extrapolate information without being told everything step-by-step, they contain useful tips on what I’m here for: blogging.
Thank you for your thoughts.
That is good to hear. I wonder if you feel the same way about my overly long post I just did. lol…
isn’t this the point of blogging?
Depends on who you are.
A blogger.
Not you… I meant whoever is answering this question. lmao…
I think it really depends on who’s reading your random thoughts. Dont get me wrong, but i just read your thoughts about random thoughts. Thats y blogs like wordpress r free, public, and they find you audience. It shoukdnt be a diary or an unpublished book. You could learn something at the end.
I agree, but I think you also missed the point of this post. This wasn’t to educate people on blogging or to tell them why to do it. This was to inform those that are trying to self-publish or self-promote. If you aren’t doing those, then this post is not directed towards you. -OM
